The importance of Rishi Panchami (ऋषि पंचमी का महत्व) is considered very high in Hinduism. It is an auspicious day for women to be free from defects (दोषों से मुक्त). The Rishi Panchami (ऋषि पंचमी) vrat 2023 falls a day after Ganesh Chaturthi 2023. There is a tradition of worshipping the Saptarishis (सप्तऋषियों की पूजा) in Hinduism on the fifth day of the month of Bhadon. The vrat story of this Rishi Panchami was told by Brahma Ji himself (ब्रह्माजी), this time this fast is on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. According to our religion, on this day all women worship the Saptarishi. According to the ritual of Rishi Panchami, whoever observes a fast on this day, all their sins are removed (समस्त पाप दूर हो जाते हैं). So that if there is any mistake in the rules at the time of their menstruation (माहवारी के समय), then Rishi Panchami vrat is kept to apologize for the same mistake. As per the Hindu calendar 2023, the day of Rishi Panchami falls in August or September every year.

Rishi Panchami Vrat Puja Vidhi (ऋषि पंचमी व्रत पूजा विधि)

In this, all men and women wake up in the morning before sunrise and take bath (प्रातः सूर्योदय से पूर्व उठकर स्नान करे).
Wear clean clothes (स्वच्छ वस्त्र पहनती हैं).
Offer water to Lord Surya Narayan (भगवान सूर्य नारायण को पानी चढ़ाऐ).
After this, offer water to Peepal and Tulsi Mata trees also (पीपल व तुलसा माता के पेड़ में भी पानी चढ़ाऐ).
Make a square from cow dung in the house (पूजा गृह में गोबर से चौक बनाए) and worship them by making saptarishis from the appan (ऐपन से सप्त ऋषि बनाकर उनकी पूजा करे).
Establish the Kalash (कलश की स्थापना करे).
Offer panchamrit to the idols of sages (ऋषि).
After this, apply tilak of sandalwood and vermilion on sages idols (उन पर चंदन और सिंदूर का तिलक लगाएं).
Listen to Rishi Panchami vrat katha by applying lamp and bhog (दीप, दूप एवं भोग लगाकर ऋषि पंचमी व्रत कथा सुने).
Sitting in a quiet place, all the Sapta Rishis like Vishwamitra (विश्रवामित्र), Kanva (कण्‍व), Rishi Vashishtha (ऋषि वशिष्‍ठ), Bharadwaja (भारद्वाज), Vamadeva (वामदेव), Atri (अत्रि) and Shaunak (शौनक) should all be called after meditating.
Offering fruits, flowers, sandalwood, incense, akshat, sweets, lamps etc., worship all the seven sages with full rituals (विध‍ि -विधान से पूजा करे).
Worship them by wearing white clothes, Yagyopavitas (सफेद वस्त्र यज्ञोपवीतों) and Naivedya with chanting of mantras (नैवेद्य धारण कर उनकी पूजा करें).
One should follow the rule of celibacy by doing Jagran during the night, and the fast should be broken with firmness (जागरणकरके ब्रह्मचर्य नियम का पालन करे).
On this day many women do not eat the sown grain of the plow.
After this puja, women do not consume food grains.
Udyapan of this fast is done when the menstruation is gone (माहवारी के चले जाने पर इस व्रत का उद्यापन किया जाता हैं).

Rishi Panchami Udyapan Vidhi (ऋषि पंचमी की उद्यापन विधि)

If one starts observing the vrat of Rishi Panchami once, then it is necessary to do this every year (यह व्रत प्रतिवर्ष करना जरूरी है).
Brahmin feast is done on this day after worshiping ritually (ब्राहमण भोज करवाया जाता हैं).
The seven brahmins (सात ब्रह्मणों) are considered as the form of the Sapta Rishi (सप्त ऋषि) and donated to them.
They send them off by giving them clothes, food and money in the form of dakshina ( दक्षिणा में वस्‍त्र, अन्‍न व य‍था शक्ति रूपया देकर).

कश्यपोत्रिर्भरद्वाजो विश्वामित्रोथ गौतमः।
